満足感の度合

マーク・ピーターセン著 『 マーク・ピーターセンの英語のツボ（集英社インターナショナル）』 の３５ページに次の記述がある：

（引用開始）　「満足している状態」を表すには、" be happy with ～"がよく使われる。もちろん、"be satisfied with ～"と言っても同じような意味を表現できるが、satisfied よりも happy のほうが「満足感」が幾分か強く感じられる。また、" be pleased with ～"と言えば、「満足感」がさらに高い感じになる。なお、" be content with ～"もあるが、これは " be satisfied with ～"と同じように「一応不満ではない」といったニュアンスになる。（引用終止）

また、『Collins Cobuild English Usage』 には pleased - disappointed という項目があり、最も満足な状態から最も不満足な状態に至る各段階を表す語彙を次の順で記述してある：

thrilled,　overjoyed 　→　delighted →　glad,　pleased　→　satisfied　→　resigned,　philosophical　→　disappointed　→　upset　→　shattered,　devastated

そして、『 Collins Cobuild Advanced Learner's English Dictionary 』　には　―　上記の意味の philosophical に関連して　―　次の語義説明と例文がある：

Someone who is philosophical does not get upset when disappointing or disturbing things happen.　Lewis has grown philosophical about life.

ちなみに、私が 「上級学習英英辞典」 で 「塔」 を完成させた時の満足度は、もちろん、thrilled　と言うべきものだったし、今もそれは変わらない。
